Mark Double, Research Associate, West Virginia University
Melinda Double, Pharmacist, Monongahela Valley Association
Mark and Melinda (Mindy) Double are residents of Morgantown, West Virginia. Mark, a Research Associate in Plant Pathology at The Davis College of Agriculture, West Virginia University, has been involved with American chestnut research since 1977.
Professor Double has authored more than thirty scientific publications. Working with Dr. William MacDonald, Professor of Forest Pathology at WVU, together, they have focused their research on selective virus-containing strains, in an effort to study and elucidate biological control of the chestnut blight fungus.
He was the Assistant Treasurer of The American Chestnut Foundation for more than fifteen years. He has also has served as the secretary for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Regional Project on chestnut research, NE-1033, for more than twenty-five years.
Professor Double has been a committee member of the West Virginia Chestnut Festival the past five years. He has provided distinguished speakers for both the keynote address and the scientific program.
Dr. Mindy Double has been a pharmacist at the Monongahela Valley Association Fairmont Clinic since 1977. Mindy has often accompanied Mark on chestnut excursions. They have been married since 1976, and they have two adult daughters, Erin and Sara, both of Morgantown.
